{"id":10,"date":"2012-07-24T00:47:56","date_gmt":"2012-07-24T00:47:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/backroads.cleverconcepts.net\/blog\/?p=10"},"modified":"2012-07-24T00:47:56","modified_gmt":"2012-07-24T00:47:56","slug":"my-life-as-a-winemaker-by-paul-frankel","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.backroadswineries.com\/blog\/2012\/07\/24\/my-life-as-a-winemaker-by-paul-frankel\/","title":{"rendered":"My Life as a Winemaker by Paul Frankel"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>My name is Paul Warren Frankel, and I\u2019m the winemaker at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sculpterra.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sculpterra Winery<\/a>.\u00a0 It\u2019s an all-consuming occupation \u2013 a true \u201clabor of love\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0 I am also a wine making control freak, and from each harvest, I tailor each new vintage to an exact style and taste. \u00a0I\u2019m 26 years old, and I finished my BA in Viticulture and Enology at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, in 2009.\u00a0 Along with winemaking, I manage the ranch vineyards, work fruit and juice sales, schedule production &amp; plot projections, and even pour wine for our guests in the tasting room.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.backroadswineries.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/paulblog2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-18\" title=\"Paul Frankel\" src=\"https:\/\/www.backroadswineries.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/paulblog2.jpg\" alt=\"Paul Frankel, winemaker, Sculpterra Winery, Paso Robles\" width=\"263\" height=\"246\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>My father, Dr. Warren Frankel, is a practicing family doctor who moved his family from the Los Angeles area to the rugged back roads of Paso Robles in 1990.\u00a0 Some of our now 265 acres were purchased as far back as 1980.\u00a0 We started with Pistachio trees in 1981, planted our first Cabernet parcel in 1990, sold our fruit to a variety of local wineries, and now make family estate wines, which we sell from our tasting room\/winery.\u00a0 We are the quintessential \u201cfamily owned and operated\u201d winery, and I work closely on all aspects of the business with my father (the Owner!).<\/p>\n<p>People often ask me, \u201cSo Paul\u2026.where do you live?\u201d\u00a0 I respond, \u201cI live here\u2026on the property.\u00a0 I make the rough daily commute on an ATV, riding through the rows of vines.\u201d\u00a0 \u00a0I loved growing up on this property, and enjoyed every bit of my outdoors childhood.\u00a0 I got the wine bug early on, and the thought of producing a hand made, family produced product really excited me, and still excites me today.<\/p>\n<p>Every year, the harvest turns into a blur;
